PCI DSS Defined

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a set of security standards designed to ensure that all companies that accept, process, store or transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment. The PCI DSS applies to any organization, regardless of size or number of transactions, that accepts, transmits or stores any cardholder data. The current PCI DSS documents can be found on the PCI Security Standards Council website:

Recommendations

  • The use of Firewalls and/or VLAN configurations to separate the digital signage system from payment processing systems and other data-sensitive network devices is recommended.
  • The use of Firewalls and/or VLAN configurations to separate the digital signage system from untrusted user devices is recommended.
  • The use of Wi-Fi networks that require splash page logins can create technical challenges for digital signage products and are not recommended.
  • Dedicating an isolated VLAN with internet access that allows port forwarding specifically for the digital signage system is considered best practice.
